Tim Laarman

The owner and founder of Beacon Engineering, Sam Ajwah, has sixteen years of progressive and responsible engineering experience. Sam graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree, and in 2011 with a Master of Executive Business Administration degree with honors. Sam is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

For many years, Sam worked for several system integrators as a Project, Systems and Controls Engineer, where he gained experience working on a host of automated assembly and test equipment projects.

Between 2007 and 2012, Sam worked in the solar industry where he gained experience in managing large-scale construction projects in addition to leading sizable project teams. In that position and prior to becoming a project manager, Sam also had the opportunity to work on designing and commissioning solar panels manufacturing equipment.

Prior to establishing Beacon Engineering, Sam was an engineering department manager for an engineering services provider. In that position, he worked on a variety of manufacturing projects while leading a large group of engineers. He also assumed business development responsibilities and worked on establishing new and growing existing accounts. Sam is the principal designer and the lead program manager for all programs and projects at Beacon Engineering.

Jenny Ajwah brings fifteen years of experience in leadership, operations and strategy to Beacon Engineering. Jenny has held various roles in health care leadership gaining experience in operations, people and project management.  From 2001 to 2012, Jenny held various leadership roles.  It was during this time that she lead the design and ongoing operations of an integrated medical wellness and rehabilitation facility, aligning hospital based services with retail health and community health programming.  

Prior to joining Beacon Engineering, Jenny worked on strategic and transformational projects for a large integrated health care system in West Michigan. She gained experience in operational improvement and process design. Jenny is an experienced facilitator and change agent.  

Jenny received her Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Sciences and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Grand Valley State University. In 2012, she received an executive Master of Business Administration from Davenport University. Jenny is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Bronze certified in Lean through Spectrum Health, and remains a registered Occupational Therapist.   

Tim Laarman has more than twenty-five years of experience in machine construction, process design, build, and production equipment optimization. His background includes a rich mix of expertise in mechanical, electrical, chemical and plasma processes. In addition, Tim has extensive knowledge of sputtering, gas mixing and distribution, and pumping systems. 

Tim has a proven track record cultivating winning teams and leading skilled technicians. He possesses strong technical and analytical skills with attention to detail and problem resolution, while implementing process improvements and cost savings. He started his career as a lab technician gaining hands-on experience in the mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering processes. In that role, he assumed additional responsibilities training and leading internal team members and external users.

Tim assumed several positions as a process, production and manufacturing engineer crafting and creating prototypes for products and designing processes of innovative manufacturing equipment, in addition to leading and directing teams of engineers building, commissioning, testing and optimizing machines. As a Machine Process Optimization Manager, Tim directed a team of twenty skilled technicians in a 24/7 machine build operation, performed shift scheduling, constantly evaluated and monitored skills to balance team strengths and to improve overall team performance, and utilized knowledge to improve processes and build techniques. 

Tim has an Associate of Electronics degree, holds nine registered patents, and took part and solely authored multiple publications in the solar energy field.
